McMurry Requirements for Certification


McMurry University has established requirements for certification which are above and beyond normal graduation requirements. To secure a recommendation for certification from McMurry, one must meet the following criteria:

  1. Completion of an approved degree program in multidisciplinary studies.
  2. Overall GPA of 2.50.
  3. GPA of 2.50 with no grade lower than a "C" in the following areas
    • for elementary certification:
      • professional development courses in Curriculum and Instruction;
      • combination of subject courses
      • academic specialization
    • for secondary certification:
      • professional development courses in Curriculum and Instruction
      • teaching field(s)
  4. Submission of an application for certification (accompanied by the appropriate fee) to McMurry Certification Officer.

Policy Exceptions

Exceptions to the teacher education polices stated in these pages and the current bulletin require action by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. A request for variation should be submitted to the Chairperson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at least two weeks in advance of the time it is required. Students will be notified in writing of the action taken by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction on their variance request. Appeals, if necessary, may be addressed in writing to the Teacher Education Committee.
