Recent
graduates of the Department of Religion and Philosophy have received full-tuition
scholarships at Duke University Divinity School and Princeton Theological
Seminary. Other graduates have been admitted to Perkins School of Theology
at SMU, Asbury Theological Seminary, Brite Divinity School at TCU, the
Candler School of Theology at Emory, both the Truett Theological Seminary
and the Law School of Baylor University, and Marquette University.
Religion majors have presented
academic papers in the student sections of the annual meetings of the
Southwest Commission on Religious Studies and the Great Plains Regional
Honors Conference. A McMurry honors thesis in Religion won first place
in the thesis competition at the GPRHC in 2000. Religion majors have ample
opportunity to conduct research, work closely with the faculty, and benefit
from the advice of Bishop in Residence Dan Solomon and Chaplain Tim Kennedy
as they prepare for seminary. Several students also hold part-time positions
in local churches.
