IRVING, Texas -- Sul Ross State's David Munoz hit a
two-out RBI double to centerfield off Mississippi College's Josh
Simpson in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Mario
Porras to give the Lobos a 2-1. Porras reached base on a single
and advanced to second base on David Martinez' single.
Mississippi College threatened in its half of the eight inning and had the bases loaded with one out. Carl Sandberg and Brian Lott each singled before Paul Fryant walked. Grant Stegeall pinch hit for Rob Hembree but grounded to third base and Sandberg was forced out at home by Martinez. Chad Blanchard struck out looking to end the inning.
Chris Tobola retired Mississippi College in order to pick up the save for Sul Ross State. The Lobos will face the University of Dallas Friday, April 30, at 9 a.m.

IRVING, Texas -- Catcher Phil Cooley drove in three runs
with a two-outs, bases-loaded triple off the right field wall in
the bottom of the second inning as the University of Dallas
cruised to a 6-1 victory over McMurry in game two of the American
Southwest Conference Post-Season Baseball Tournament. The
Crusaders scored another three runs in their half of the third
inning, giving sophomore pitcher Scott Myers all the runs he
would need.
Myers earned the complete game victory and gave up just one unearned run on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Myers threw a total of 107 pitches in the win.
McMurry's only run came in the top of the eighth inning. Jeff Byrd led off with a double to left center then scored on Cullen Lampe's RBI single to center field. The Indians had runners and first and second with one out, but could not score any more runs as Andrew Cox hit into an inning-ending double play. McMurry pitcher Jim Wollscheid had his first loss of the season in 10 decisions. He pitched five innings and gave up six runs -- five unearned -- on five hits and seven strikeouts.
McMurry will play Mississippi College at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 30.

Sul Ross State needed extra innings to earn a spot in
Saturday's championship game of the ASC Post-Season Baseball
Tournament -- defeating tournament host University of Dallas 10-9
in 10 innings.
Sul Ross starting pitcher Scott Kubosh forced in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning when he was hit by a pitch from Bill Westhoff with one out and the bases loaded. The Lobos forced the extra frame in their half of the ninth when catcher Mario Porras hit a sacrifice fly which scored Brent Booze.
After taking a 6-1 lead early, Sul Ross pushed the lead to 8-3 heading into the eighth -- only to see that lead evaporate in the hot sun. The Crusaders scored six times in their half of the inning to not only erase the lead, but take a 9-8 advantage and force a Sul Ross State comeback.

IRVING, Texas -- Rob Hembree hit a two-out, pinch-hit
single with two outs that scored Carl Sandberg from second base
and gave Mississippi College a 4-3 victory over defending
champions McMurry to stay alive in the ASC Baseball Tournament.
The loss ended the Indians hopes of repeating as conference
champions.
McMurry scored two runs in its first at bat and took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning when Mississippi College tied the game. Curt Crain singles to centerfield following Chad Blanchard's pinch hit walk. Pinch running for Blanchard, Kevin Howard scored the tying run off Carl Stelgall's RBI single up the middle.
Mississippi College will need to defeat the University of Dallas in Friday's final game in order to play in the title game against Sul Ross State.

IRVING, Texas -- It was a came of comebacks -- four to be
exact. Mississippi College and University of Dallas each over
came two deficits before the Crusaders scored twice in the bottom
of the 8th inning then staved off the Choctaws final comeback bid
in the ninth inning to earn a 6-5 victory and a berth in
Saturday's ASC Championship game against Sul Ross State.
Nathan Aviles tied the game 5-5 with an RBI single that scored Octavio Oropeza, then Jesse Nelson drove in the eventual game-winning run with a single that scored Aviles.
Mississippi College took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out sacrifice fly by Michael Henry and held onto the lead until the bottom of the sixth. Dallas scored twice to take a 4-3 lead on a RBI bloop-single by Phil Cooley, and a fielder's choice grounder by Aviles which scored Tony Gallizzi. The Choctaws responded with two more runs in their half of the 8th before the Crusaders scored their final runs.

IRVING, Texas -- Sul Ross State University
scored seven runs in the second inning and seven runs in the
fifth inning and cruised to a 16-3 victory over the University of
Dallas to win the 1999 ASC Post-Season Baseball Tournament. The
Lobos, as ASC Champions, will now wait for a bid to the NCAA
Tournament.
The seven runs scored in the second inning were all the Lobos needed to claim the championship. Sending 10 batters to the plate, Sul Ross chased Dallas starting pitcher Casey Hargrove in favor of Mike Perdue. Rob Borchardt, Scott Kubosh and Andres Mata each drove in a pair of runs in the inning.
Kubosh and Borchardt each went 2-for-6 in the game, drove in four runs and also scored two runs apiece. Third baseman Steven Henn was 5-of-6 from the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
Sul Ross Starting pitcher, Shawn Wright went eight innings on the mound and gave up just six hits with four strikeouts. All three runs were earned. Chris Estrada came on to pitch the ninth inning and struck out of the three batters he faced.
