Virus Warnings and Updates

W32 Novarg.A / MyDoom

It is a mas-mailing worm that arrives as an email attachment. The attachment may have the following extensions: .bat, .cmd, .exe, .pif, .scr, or .zip. The subject and sender will vary. An infected machine may allow a person to connect to the machine and gain access to network resources. If you become infected, Symantec does have a removal tool. You can download it from their website http://www.symantec.com or from the Symantec Information Panel on the right.

Important things to note about this virus:

  • Just because you receive the email, doesn't mean you are infected!
  • Just because you show up as the sender of an infected email does not mean you are infected. If you receive an email that has an attachment, unless you are certain of its contents, do not open it. Delete it immediately. Then empty your deleted items.
  • Another way to protect yourself in Outlook, turn off the preview panel ( Go to View, and Click Preview Pane)
