The Indian Spirit is everywhere.
You can see it on the faces and chests of painted basketball fanatics or in the windows of the residence halls.
You can hear it in the air as the freshman beat the drum the night before the Homecoming game or as the fans in the stands chant and swing their arms like tomahawks.
You can feel it as the bleachers vibrate to stomps of the "Victory Beat" or when you talk to the proud students, faculty and staff.
And it's contagious.
Our most treasured traditions occur at Homecoming. McMurry Social Clubs compete by setting up authentic tipis to form "Tipi Village" in Wah Wahtaysee Park. This village becomes the hub for an amazing weekend including a bonfire and the Sunset Ceremony. Students stay up late at their tipis, sitting around the cozy fire and talking or maybe singing a song or two.
Coronation follows the Homecoming Musical where Chief and Princess McMurry are crowned. There, the beating of the drum begins. Freshmen keep the beat alive through the night until kickoff at the football game the following day, ensuring a McMurry victory.
And there's so much more!
Spring McMadness, Vision Quest, Sing Song, plus the many traditions of each individual social club--the fun is everywhere! Apply today and catch the War Hawk spirit!
