Computer Science Students:
The department and the Big Country Chapter (professional) of AITP sponsors the McM AITP Student Chapter. The department provides a faculty advisor and helps students secure funding support through McM resources. The professional chapter hosts a monthly luncheon with guest speakers, awards several scholarships each year, and helps fund student attendance at conferences. Each school year, students try to attend a regional and national conference which provides opportunities for team competitions in programming, network design, database design, Web site design, and other activities. The department also encourages student attendance at the regional CCSC (ACM SIGCSE) conference which provides programming competitions. The conferences also provide job fairs that enable students to develop a network of contacts for internships and employment after graduation. The student chapter also looks for opportunities to provide community service such as supporting the Abilene Big Brother/Big Sister Program by rebuilding a computer for a Big Brother to give to his Little Brother.
McM Student Chapter Programming Challenges:
Students meet 2nd and 4th Thursday each month to solve a programming problem, either individually or as a team of 2 programmers. The Faculty Sponsor provides separate problem statements for freshmen/sophomores and juniors/seniors and decides whether it is an individual or team problem. Students have about 45 minutes to provide a solution which is judged based on correctness of solution and then on programming techniques and style. Winners receive a certificate suitable for framinging and other prizes from community supporters.

Webvana Summer Computer Camp:
Students from the McMurry Student Chapter work together with other McMurry Social Clubs each summer to conduct Webvana, a summer computer camp for middle school students. This week long day camp gives the middle school students the opportunity to learn computer programming, web and graphic design, PowerPoint presentation, Internet skills, and more. McMurry students teach the classes. The camp will be held July 6-10, 2009 at McMurry University. This camp serves as a major fund raised to help pay for student trips to conferences.
