Trumpet Studio
|
The McMurry Trumpet Studio is comprised of music majors, minors, and non-majors. Weekly lessons include a maintenance routine developed by William Adam (Professor Emeritus, Indiana University), etudes, solo literature, and sight reading. Weekly master classes address trumpet-playing challenges with an emphasis on positive reinforcement of accomplished skills. As members of the studio, students are invited to participate in trumpet choir. McMurry boasts two such choirs: one designed for all trumpet students, and a select choir for competition. The trumpet choir performs regularly on campus and at area high schools. The 2009-10 group was selected by blind audition as semi-finalists at the prestigious National Trumpet Competition at George Mason University in northern Virginia. Students are prepared for the musical career of their choice. As performers, they can specialize in orchestral, jazz, or commercial styles. As music educators, McMurry trumpet students can be confident in front of a marching band, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, or chamber group.
