V.O. Key, Jr. (1908-1963) was one of the most distinguished American political scientists of the twentieth century. He initiated his academic career at McMurry, graduating from the Academy, a private high school affiliated with the college, in 1925. He began college courses in the fall of the same year. As a freshman, he was assistant editor of the War Whoop, the McMurry student newspaper, and secretary of the Press Club. By his sophomore year, he was the editor of the paper and president of the Press Club. During both years, he belonged to IHR, one of the men’s social clubs. In 1927, he transferred to University of Texas at Austin to complete his undergraduate education, and from there he advanced to the University of Chicago to earn his Ph.D. He ended his career at Harvard University.
