Psychology at McMurry

Conference photoDr. John Eric Swenson and psychology majors Lindsey Brotsch, Ryan Davis, Jason Herfurth, Allison Horrell, Cheryl Hatcher, Rhonda Williams, Kristi Terbush, and Amanda Salas recently attended a conference in Irving, Texas, of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. The focus of the conference was depression in the clergy.

From mental health and medicine, from business to law, and from early childhood education to gerontology to engineering, psychology touches nearly every aspect of our daily lives. Nationwide, psychology is one of the fast growing, most popular majors, and the knowledge you will gain is foundational to any career which deals with people. Psychology majors not only learn to think critically and communicate effectively, they also develop an understanding of the motivations and needs of people.

Chemistry, physics, or biology may be about labs and equipment, but psychology is about people and relationships. At McMurry, we don’t simply teach psychology; we both model and encourage a commitment to people with:

• Small class sizes that facilitate discussion

• A caring Christian environment

• Collaborative research opportunities

• Service learning projects

• Pre-professional internships
