Cross and Flame Award
The Cross and Flame Award was established in 2000 by the Alumni Association. This award is given to recognize and strengthen the relationship between McMurry University and the United Methodist Church by recognizing individuals for service to their local church and to the university. Spirit of McMurry Award
The Spirit of McMurry Award was established in 2011 by the Alumni Association. This award honors alumni who have graduated in the last 20 years and have excelled in their profession, served their community, and served McMurry University. The nominee must be a graduate of McMurry and must not be employed by the University. Fill out a nomination form.
Distinguished Alumni Award
The Distinguished Alumni Award was established in 1971 by the Alumni Association. this award honors alumni who have made a significant contribution to their profession, society, and to McMurry University. The nominee must be a graduate of McMurry and must not be employed by the University. Fill out a nomination form.
Heartbeat of Campus Service Award
The Heartbeat of Campus Service Awards are given each year to one McMurry faculty member and one McMurry staff member. The Alumni Association Board of Directors established these awards in 2012 to recognize faculty and staff for their dedication to McMurry and their students. These awards are presented as a token of the Alumni Association’s affection and respect. These awards carry special meaning because they symbolize the singular importance of faculty and staff in the McMurry experience.
The faculty award is named for Reverend Johnnie Kahl, who served McMurry as its campus minister for 16 years. The staff award is named for Jewell Posey who came to McMurry with its first class as a student in 1923 and served McMurry College in innumerable roles until 1973. Kahl and Posey both represented dedication of self and service to McMurry. Recipients of the awards share these same qualities.
Criteria: Applicants must have been in a faculty or staff position at McMurry for at least six years. Applicants should be nominated based on dedication to students, excellence in profession, service to McMurry and service to the community. This award may only be awarded once a lifetime.
