Get to Know McMurry

McMurry University has designed a pre-college summer program for gifted and talented students entering 8th, 9th and 10th grades.  The program provides outstanding students an opportunity to earn up to 6 college credits in uniquely designed courses in several subject areas.  The experience will include courses taught only by distinctive McMurry University faculty and are offered at a minimal expense.  Every class must meet a required minimum of 10 students.
Each course has a tuition cost of only $300 which also includes books and fees.  Students may earn credits from up to 2 courses (one in the morning and one in the afternoon).  Courses offered will include the following:

BUSINESS (BA) 1399: Introductory Finance and Economics
Prof. Reynolds

ENGLISH (ENG) 1399: The Logic and Art of Writing Essays*
Prof. Cole Thompson
*Enrollment in this course is limited to 12 students.

MATH 1315:  Contemporary Mathematics

ART 1313: Basic Pottery Art
Prof.  Kathie Walker-Millar

ART 2399:  Beginning Digital Photography*
Prof. Jennifer Nichols
*Students in this course must have a digital camera, memory card, batteries, recordable CDs with paper sleeves or a jump drive, and permission to go off campus on shooting excursions.

Qualification Requirements:
  Students must be entering 8th, 9th or 10th grade.
Courses are designated for talented students ready for an advanced academic challenge.
Applications must include a school transcript and a written recommendation from a counselor or teacher.
Students applying for the English course must also provide a writing sample/essay on a subject of choice.
Preferred courses will be assigned until filled to capacity in the order
applications are received and completed.
Applications are encouraged by May 1, due no later than May 10.
Due to new Texas law, all students must provide meningitis shot records.  Shots must have been received within 5 years.  New shots (if needed) must be received within 10 days of the first class.

An official application is available for print.  Application submissions are encouraged by May 1, due absolutely no later than May 10 to allow for evaluation.  Preferred courses will be assigned in the order applications are submitted and completed until filled to capacity.
