JAY-ROLLINS LIBRARY
Welcome to the Jay-Rollins Library at McMurry University where we provide resources, reference assistance and support for student and faculty research and patrons of the Abilene Library Consortium. You will find over 150,000 books, 80 plus databases, 195 print newspapers, magazines and journals and over 4000 online journals, and friendly staff. In addition the AEC (Academic Enrichment Center), MOVE support staff and Academic Athletic Resource Coordinator are located in the first floor Learning Commons.
We are part of the Abilene Library Consortium providing our patrons with access to the Library collections of Abilene Christian University, Hardin Simmons University, Howard Payne University and the Abilene Public Libraries. A courier runs Monday thru Friday transporting books between libraries. You may place holds on materials in the Consortium Libraries using our online catalog.
If you need materials from Libraries outside of the Consortium (Inter-Library Loans) contact our Reference Librarian at 793-4683.
Resources:
Orientation tours and Library instruction are offered to interested persons and groups. Arrangements can be made with the Reference Librarian. This can take place in the Library or in the classroom.
New books are displayed for short periods of time on the first floor in the Bound Periodicals area.
Current Periodicals are located across from the Circulation desk
The Reference Collectionis on the Mezzanine. The majority of the Main Collection is on the 2nd floor.
The Media Center is located behind the Circulation area and staff will work with faculty and students on accessing equipment for media projects. The Library's collection of CD's, DVD's & Videos is available in the Center.
Five Special Collections including The McWhiney Foundation Research Collection, The J.W. Hunt Collection of Texana and the Southwest, the Yeats and Clement Collections, and the University Archives are located on the 2nd floor.
WiFi access throughout the Library. Fourteen networked computers are available to students and staff and are located on the first floor. Log-in requires a current MCM network ID and password. Four public access computers are available on the first floor and do not require log-in. In addition the AEC has nineteen computers in their lab.
Two Printers and a Copier are available in the Learning Commons. A copy machine is located across from the Circulation Desk. Copies are 10 cents a page and require cash. The copier will also make two sided copiesThe two printers are located by the AEC: a large duplex printer is in front and a color printer inside.They are linked to student accounts and students start out with 600 print credits a semester, (1 credit for black & white, 10 credits for color). The AEC also has a fax machine available. More print credits can be purchased from the AEC and the Computer Information office in Cooke 103 at 5 cents a credit.
Microfilm copying is available for 10 cents a page. Complete the forms located next to the MFM Readers (located in the Communication Production Area on the first floor) and take the forms to the Circulation desk. One of the Library staff will make your copies.
