About the Parents'
Council
What is
the McMurry University Parents' Council?
It is made of parents like you who have the best interests of
their students at heart. It provides a basis of support and lets
you know all parents go through similar experiences. The Parents'
Council serves to advise, support and inform the parents of present
and former McMurry students and build relationships among the
University's constituent groups, while encouraging participation in
campus life.

Emergency Roadside
Handbook
The handbook is provided to students from the Parents' Council and
contains helpful information about what to do in a vehicle
emergency or breakdown and important emergency telephone numbers.
Perhaps more importantly, it lists by geographical area the names,
addresses and phone numbers of all Parents' Council members, alumni
and friends who are willing to assist students. If students have
car trouble on the road or have an emergency, they know they can
call for help from any listed member. Members are not obligated to
provide monetary or roadside assistance, such as towing. However,
assistance in securing help from appropriate entities, a ride into
the nearest city or staying with a student until further help
arrives is appreciated.
The Parents' Council Offers
Scholarships
Membership dues and fundraising monies are used each semester for
student scholarships. The council awarded $1800 in the Fall of
2003. In the Spring of 2004, the Council awarded $900 in
scholarships. Preference is given to students who have a family
member with a current membership in the McMurry University Parents'
Council. Students may apply in the Office of Financial Aid.
