RESPONSIBILITIES: McMurry University, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the American Southwest Conference, is seeking applications for a full-time position of Sports Information Director. This position will be responsible for overseeing the media and public relations office for a 17-sport varsity intercollegiate athletics program. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: writing, editing, and distributing press releases, hosting media events and press conferences, and arranging interviews with athletes and coaches; designing and producing media guides, game day programs, brochures and other publications; and developing and maintaining the University’s athletic website. Additional responsibilities include updating, maintaining and reporting statistical information to the conferences, NCAA, and other affiliations; serve as photographer and maintain photo and statistical archives. The Sports Information Director will work with the University Relations Office to actively market athletic programs and to ensure sports information activities support the overall goals and mission of the University.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in areas such as mass communication, journalism, public relations, athletic management or other related field. A minimum of two years of professional experience in a varsity intercollegiate athletics setting is required. Candidates should be knowledgeable of NCAA rules and regulations regarding sports information and media relations. Excellent oral and written communication skills and established sports journalism skills are required. Experience with StatCrew, desktop publishing and photoshop preferred, as well as experience with other on-line venues, such as video streaming and podcasting. This position requires extensive night and weekend work during competition seasons and will require travel to off-campus sites.

Position Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Major/Essential Duties of the Job:
• Assist in daily operations of the sports medicine facility and all aspects associated with administering and providing services and coverage for McMurry University intercollegiate athletic teams.
• Provide injury care, prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation for McMurry University student athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics.
• Communicate with student athletes, medical personnel, athletic staff and administrators in the development and coordination of efficient and responsive athletic health care.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Head AT or Director of Athletics.
• Additional responsibilities include athletic training administrative duties, education, counseling and education of student athletes.
• Education and recruitment of student athletic trainers.
• Supervise, instruct and evaluate the work of student trainers. Perform other tasks of a similar nature or level as assigned.
• Complete insurance report forms on accidents and injuries and verify claim information. May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position to include the recruitment and retention of students.
• Referral of sports injuries to external medical facilities and injury record keeping.
• Must be able to lift in excess of 100 lbs. and stand for an extensive amount of time per day, must be able to deal with heat and changing weather precautions.
• Travel and irregular work hours required. Requires frequent lifting, bending, stooping, or standing. Working beyond normal 40-hour week is possible during seasonal activities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Required Education/Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, or related field, and licensure by the State of Texas is required. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be (or become) current in CPR/AED and first aid qualified.
Preferred Education/Experience:
Master’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, or related field is preferred and a minimum of two year’s experience. Preferred certification in Athletic Training from the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification.

Molecular Biologist
Department of Biology
Position: Assistant Professor of Biology - Molecular Genetics or Cell Biology focus. This is a new full-time tenure track position (pending board approval), with 9 month appointment, beginning August 2008. Optional opportunities exist for summer research or teaching.
Qualifications: The successful applicant must have an earned doctorate in a biology, biotechnology, or biomedical field by time of appointment, with a strong background in molecular genetics and cell biology preferred, and accomplished in cell and molecular techniques. Successful applicants must be committed to the concept of an undergraduate liberal arts education, and to McMurry’s mission and Core Values. Ability to involve undergraduates in one’s research is highly desirable.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will teach cell and molecular biology and techniques courses, genetics, and other courses at all levels appropriate to the successful candidate’s training and experience. Loads are typically 12-15 contact hours per semester, but may be adjusted for faculty involved in funded research or other major assignments for the University. Additional responsibilities grow with experience and include: advising students, university committee assignments, and participation in student and professionally-oriented activities supported by the department.
The Department: The Department of Biology has six faculty with expertise in invertebrate biology, mammalogy, botany, human anatomy, and microbiology. The department offers only the BS in Biology degree, although curricular changes under consideration would lead to expansion and redesign for Fall 2008. These changes include a new BS in Life Sciences major to support the preparation of excellent high school life science teachers. The department is well-supported by McMurry University and was ranked as the top program in recent campus-wide program reviews. The department has a successful early acceptance 3+4 BS in Biology/DDS agreement with the UTHSC-San Antonio School of Dentistry.
