Counseling Mission and Vision

Mission
The mission of McMurry University Counseling Services is to provide the highest quality of mental health care for university students. We empower students to make better choices, leading to healthier, happier, and more productive lives. The philosophy is to promote independence while challenging and educating students to accept individual responsibility for the development of confidence, stability, self-respect, healthy interpersonal relationships, and coping skills. This is done through guiding students toward a deeper understanding of their behavioral patterns and the consequences of their actions.

Vision
The counseling center will seek to provide an environment that encourages indepedence and stability among students. The professional staff shall be familiar with the behavioral and emotional issues that affect college students. The counseling center accepts and understands the developmental needs during the transitional university years. We seek to instill the confidence in students to make good choices about their relationships, education, career, and values. The professional staff of the couseling center will create programming to encourage personal growth, development of important interpersonal skills, and prevention of maladaptive behaviors. The counseling center will serve as a resource to the entire McMurry community. Information and consultation about how mental and emotional health and learning disabilities affect college students will be available for students, faculty, & staff. The counseling center will become the leader in the event of a critical incident that affects campus life and the operations of the university. The university counseling center will help minimize the impact of a critical incident by assisting and educating students/faculty/staff, communicating McMurry University's concern, and promoting the utilization of the counseling center for those affected.
