Shane Hill '01
Interim Director of Student Activities and
Orientation
Education: Bachelor of Arts from McMurry
Major: Theatre
Minor: Communication
When Shane Hill moved to the Metroplex after graduating from
McMurry in 2001, he never dreamed he would return to his alma mater
to work, or that his work here would turn into a career.
As Interim Director of Student Activities and Orientation, Shane
serves as advisor, mentor and manager. Among other
responsibilities, he assists student leaders in the planning and
implementation of campus-wide events, provides leadership to
various campus committees, advises Men’s Interclub Council and
maintains and oversees all aspects of the Garrison United Methodist
Campus Center.
When Shane accepted the McMurry position, he had not intended on
making higher education his career. Yet he soon found he truly
enjoyed the work and now believes it a good fit for his future. “I
love the students here. I also love the size of the university. It
is a very close-knit group of people and you feel like you are
making a difference.” And it’s quite obvious by the smiles and hugs
Shane receives from students and laughter he shares with them on
campus that the students are glad he is here too.
Shane feels McMurry’s faith-based liberal arts structure makes
the university unique and appealing to students. “I believe our
students have an amazing opportunity to grow and learn, both
spiritually and educationally,” said Shane. “We want our students
to make their own decisions and learn from those decisions.”
Shane also likes to give back to the community by being active
in the Abilene theatre scene. He acts in or directs over ten
productions a year. And if that doesn’t keep him busy enough, he
also heads his own theatre company.
The McMurry community is so fortunate to have him “playing the
role” of mentor, advisor and friend to so many of our students.
