McMurry University Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Beverly Lenoir announces retirement

Dr. Beverly Lenoir, McMurry University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, has announced she will retire on Jan. 1, 2010, after 26 years at the University, including seven years as the school’s academic vice president.

“Dr. Lenoir has served this university and its students with a high degree of professionalism in so many ways – balancing sensitivity and passion in a most effective fashion,” said McMurry President Dr. John Russell. “I am saddened to see my “deputy” leave…but gladdened that she’ll have an increased opportunity to be with her growing family.”

Dr. Lenoir came to McMurry in 1983 as a computer science instructor. She steadily moved through positions of increasing responsibility and visibility and after only six years at McMurry, Dr. Lenoir was named Chair of the Computer Science Department. In 2000, while still serving as department chair, Dr. Lenoir also assumed the responsibilities of Director of Institutional Research and Planning. For two years, she “wore both hats” and effectively moved McMurry University into a more data-informed decision making era.

In 2002, Dr. Lenoir was named McMurry’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, responsible for all academic and instructional program of the University. Her service as VPAA has been outstanding – punctuated most recently by a ten-year reaffirmation of McMurry’s accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

During her tenure at McMurry, Dr. Lenoir has consistently served her students, her university, her church and her community. Dr. Lenoir’s 26-year record includes an impressive list of accomplishments and service contributions.

Effective with the retirement of Dr. Lenoir, Dr. Paul Fabrizio, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Religion will become the Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs.
