McMurry University Theatre Student Receives Honor
I.G.S., a play written by McMurry University senior Theatre major Taylor Compton, has been selected by the Texas Educational Theatre Association as one of two winners at the college/university level in the annual TETA Playwriting Competition. The play, written for the Playwriting course offered at McMurry last spring, is set in the future where the cyberspace virtual reality of MySpace has taken over control of the world. A small group of “Defiants” are attempting to overthrow the leader of MySpace and reintroduce true reality to the people. The play will be performed by a cast of McMurry students in January at the annual TETA Theatrefest Convention in Dallas were Compton will be recognized for the work and participate in a discussion of the script. It will be performed in Abilene, along with two other original scripts by McMurry students, in April. Compton is the eighth McMurry playwright to be recognized in the TETA contest since 1999.
