Whether you are determined to become a professional performer, educator, or simply find a home to explore your love for music, there is a place for you at McMurry. With a well-balanced percussion teacher/student ratio, there is a high amount of individual attention that gives students the opportunity to excel and gain leadership experience.
We recently completed a $2.35 million renovation of the band hall which
resulted in a state-of-the-art rehearsal facility. Housed in our new building
is a dedicated percussion studio, providing space for ensemble rehearsals,
and individual practice with 24/7 secure access. Our percussion studio is outfitted with a fantastic
inventory of well-maintained instruments, a high-end sound system for
listening and play-along, a wall of mirrors for technique and rehearsal
aid, and the ability to run the band hall “pro-tools” recording
McMurry offers many ensembles for performance and as an undergraduate only program, freshmen students play extensively from day one. Students will also go on annual tours with the wind ensemble and percussion ensemble. The percussion ensemble has recently traveled to play showcase concerts at TMEA in San Antonio and the West Texas Day of Percussion in Wollforth. We also provide a range of scholarships (by audition) to a majority of all incoming students.
All recent graduates of the program have taken percussion teaching
jobs, or have been accepted into reputable graduate schools.
