vector The mathematical
classification of a quantity which contains more than one piece of information
which is organized in a specific manner. Vectors can always be described
as provide information about how far and in which direction (from
some point). For example, the position
vector for a tree tells us that the tree in question is not just 5 meters
from the house, but that it is five meters to the north of the house.
The information provided by a vector can be denoted in a variety of ways,
one of which is as an array (list) of numbers that denote the size of the
components of the vector along
specific axes. (See also scalar
and magnitude; for an example,
compare velocity, and speed.)
