Software
Computer software is a computer
program that can be changed with very little effort. Computer software can have
various functions such as controlling hardware, performing computations,
communication with other software, and human interaction. The term software is
all information processed by computer system, programs, and data. Practical
computer systems divide software into two major classes: system software and
application software. System software helps run the computer hardware and
computer system. Application software allows a user to accomplish multiple tasks. Most application software has a Graphical User
Interface (GUI). Users of the software see things differently that programmers.
People who use modern purpose computers usually see three layers of software:
platform, application, and user-written. Platform software often comes bundled
with the computer, and users may not realize that it exists or that they have
the choice to use different platform software. Application software includes
office suites and games. They are almost always independent programs. Finally
user-written software is made to meet the user’s specific needs. User’s software
includes spreadsheet templates, word processor, etc. computer software has to
be “loaded” into the computer’s storage. Once the software is loaded, the
computer is able to operate the software. Software reliability depends on the
error, faults, and failures related to the creation and operation of software.
