Course Description:

Students will concentrate on fundamental writing skills such basic grammar, mechanics, sentence structure, word usage, proofreading, and editing.

Required Tutorials:

Any student making below 70 on a weekly quiz will be required to complete a 30 minute tutorial with a writing tutor in the AEC the following week.  Upon completion of the tutorial, the student may retake the quiz for a grade of no higher than 80.

Attendance Policy:

Please note that since Writing Mechanics is a one-hour course, missing one class period is the equivalent of missing three class periods in a three-hour course.  Make attendance a high priority!
 

• Absences will be excused only if the instructor is notified prior to the missed class and deems the absence reasonable.   ( Reasonable grounds for absence would include illness, approved extracurricular activity such as sports or band, any other circumstances approved by the instructor.)
• Students with two unexcused absences will receive a written warning.  Students with a third unexcused absence may be dropped from the course for non-attendance.
• Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to make up quizzes.
• Three unexcused tardies count as one unexcused absence.
• Students who have an excused absence or are more than five minutes tardy will be required to hand in a written copy of the exercises listed for the day on which the absence or tardy occurred.
• Any student who misses class is responsible for finding out what went on in class (notes, assignments, etc...).
• Any student who misses class due to an excused absence is responsible for making arrangements to make up class assignments or quizzes in the AEC prior to the next class meeting.
