The Department of Environmental Science offers an interdisciplinary major for students interested in a career or graduate study in the environmental field. Students develop an understanding of the economic, ethical, moral, and political issues that influence environmental decision making.
Environmental scientists work in government agencies, the private sector, or in nongovernmental organizations. They conduct environmental analyses, develop land use plans, and help manage natural resources.
Students have opportunities to participate in field trips, conduct independent research, and work on grant-funded projects. There are also opportunities to participate as volunteers in the Texas Watch program to monitor water quality in lakes, rivers and streams.
