The Texas kangaroo rat, Dipodomys elator, is a
state-protected nonegame species with a limited distribution
in north-central Texas. In l995, we began a study of the current
distribution, habitat attributes, and population status
of this species. Methodology involves
road surveys and live trapping in suitable habitat.
Locations of new records of occurrence are noted using
global positioning receivers (GPS). The aim of the study is
to provide a status report for this species that can be used
for management purposes. Individuals with knowledge about
