Threatened Species

The Texas kangaroo rat, Dipodomys elator, is a state-protected nonegame species with a limited distribution in north-central Texas. In l995, we began a study of the current distribution, habitat attributes, and population status of this species. Methodology involves road surveys and live trapping in suitable habitat. Locations of new records of occurrence are noted using global positioning receivers (GPS).
