rat The Texas kangaroo rat, Dipodomys elator, is a state-protected nonegame species with a limited distribution in north-central Texas. In l995, we began a study of the current distribution, habitat attributes, and population status of this species. Methodology involves road surveys and live trapping in suitable habitat. Locations of new records of occurrence are noted using global positioning receivers (GPS). The aim of the study is to provide a status report for this species that can be used for management purposes. Individuals with knowledge about this species are encouraged to contact: Robert E.
